The International Old Catholics Congress in 1990 decided on the annual “Lay Forum” for the exchange between the members in the dioceses of the Utrecht Union. Since then, interested and committed persons meet in mid-August between the congresses, alternately in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and occasionally other countries, deal with current spiritual topics and get to know the country and its people. The congress language is German, necessary translations are provided.
The association Internationales AK Laienforum (VIAKL) has guaranteed the structure and continuity as the governing body since 2011. At the general meeting of VIAKL in 2019, it was decided to change the name to International Old Catholic Forum.
