After the archbishop’s consecration has been postponed twice, a new date has now been set. On September 18, 2021, Archbishop elect Bernd Wallet will receive his episcopal consecration in the Grote of Lebuïnuskerk in Deventer.
This has been announced by the Metropolitan Chapter of Utrecht. How many people can be present by invitation depends on the COVID-19 measures that apply at that time.
Bishop Bernd Wallet: “It is important to our church that we can plan this celebration now. Being a bishop any longer without holding the office is going to be a real pain. We are hopeful that by then a few more people will be able to join in the celebrations than would be possible today. But in the unlikely event that this is not the case, it will continue anyway. By the way, Ember Saturday after Holy Cross Day is an age-old day of reflection and seriousness on our calendar, so if it can’t be a big party, we’ll find a way with it.”
The service will be streamed on YouTube. We would like to commend the Archdiocese of Utrecht and its elected bishop again in your prayers.
